Google Lets Users Edit Maps

Google now lets registered users in the US, Australia, and New Zealand move incorrect address locations on Google Maps. Some addresses, such as hospitals and government buildings, can’t be moved, and if you try to move a marker more than 200 yards from its original location a moderator’s approval is required.

That’s an interesting idea. As the original Slashdot article states, Google is essentially “crowdsourcing map editing”. While it would appear ripe for abuse, I imagine the actual abuse will be small. Given the opportunity, most people tend to be responsible with this sort of stuff.

Now if I could only get the citizens to maintain their own parcel lines…..
